The house, with a contemporary addition, was built in 1898 with an Arts and Crafts influence. The large family room/kitchen was completely remodeled with spaces swapped to create a larger kitchen with a better connection to the family room.
The brief was to keep the overall palette light, seat 8 people comfortably around a dining table connected to the kitchen, and create more storage space which we did by maximising the unusually high ceiling of 3.8 meters with cupboards accessible by the integrated ladder.
The family room is dominated by a painting of an eagle that set the tone for this area – which is a ‘no TV zone’ – into which we designed a new fireplace as a focal point, with the furnishings creating a relaxed ambiance.
