Unsightly renovations and additions created an ugly duckling of this Late Federation home, calling for a sympathetic contemporary redesign with layers of detail and materiality, approached with a purposeful and cohesive narrative.
Our concept created a new design language for the home, linking spaces, unifying materials, redefining the floorplan to create useful areas for the family. We were conscious of budget and sustainable principles – as was our client, so we endeavoured to work within parameters that did not require expensive engineering solutions.
Collaboration with the architects was crucial to the success of the project in improving natural light in both north and south aspects. In the middle of the pandemic a shortage of timber required the builders to reuse the original trusses and beams – a win for sustainability!

Opening from the front to the back purposefully, has created an unusual and innovative design in the Living/Kitchen space with a blurring of finishes that connect and relate the interior and exterior spaces.
