With an elevated position over Sydney Harbour, the focus of this apartment is the view. Stripped back and reworked into a highly detailed interior emanating warmth and comfort, within a confined floor plan, it delivers a fully resolved home.
One of the challenges of this project was access, so a hoist was employed to deliver building material. Taking advantage of this, we designed the solid stainless bench tops in one piece, specified large format wall tiles for the bathrooms and selected generously scaled furniture to further enhance the illusion of spaciousness. Opaque window glass in bathrooms was replaced with clear – opening views to the north and south. New steel doors were designed at the entry to the living area to heighten the impact of the dramatic view.
Materials strategy was based on textural changes and colours reflecting the surrounding spectrum of water and sky, in all their changing moods.
